Many of Wisconsin’s challenges have been well researched over the years and there is no shortage of smart ideas. The critical task now is implementation. Accelerating global changes—including geopolitical shifts, local demographic challenges, and the rise of frontier technologies—require states to move quickly on their best ideas before windows of opportunity close.
We expect global and domestic competition to increase as conditions become harder to navigate. States are increasingly in competition with one another for talent, investment in public services, infrastructure, and addressing the cost of living all have a role to play. People also want a supportive business environment, political stability, and forward-looking policies that ensure Wisconsin remains an attractive place to raise a family.
Volatility at the federal level, from the Left and the Right, has further amplified the importance of local and state-led strategies. Now is the time for Wisconsin to chart its own course—ambitiously, proactively, and strategically.
